Electrification of Refrigerated Trucking Units
Awarded: July 2019
Completion Date: June 2021
Project
Clean Cities Georgia is partnering with grocery fleets to fund electrification infrastructure for their refrigerated trailers and trucks in an effort to reduce diesel emissions. These chargers will provide grid-supplied electricity to existing refrigerated trailers in use by fleets at these locations. While many of these trailers in existing service are capable of plugging into grid-supplied electricity when parked, most have never been plugged in because of a lack of electric infrastructure on or near their facilities. Objectives
The goal of the project is to not only to improve the environmental performance of the participating fleets, but also to educate, promote, and showcase innovative approaches. These projects comprise four core components:
- Work with designated fleets to procure equipment and implement training and policies for persistent use of electrified parking spaces.
- Support and assist the implementation of diesel emission reduction policy goals through education.
- Demonstrate large-scale electrification of refrigerated trailers and TRUs using grid-supplied electricity to electrified parking spaces.
- Increase public awareness of the projects through public outreach surrounding the emission reduction improvements.
Thanks to funding from the EPA through the Diesel Emission Reduction Act (DERA) program, neighboring communities will experience significant reductions in human-harming emissions as well as improved air quality.
