SUMMARY:First Responders: Alternative Fuel Vehicle Safety Training
DESCRIPTION:Clean Cities Georgia is hosting a First Responders: Alternative Fuel Vehicle Safety Training to be held on Wednesday\, April 26th at Cobb County Fleet Management in Marietta from 8am – 5pm. This will be an in-depth training provided by a firefighter with over 30 years of experience from AFV Educate. \n \nOne of the most significant challenges faced by today’s first responders is vehicular incidents involving alternative fuel vehicles\, including: electric\, hybrid electric\, propane\, and natural gas-powered vehicles. The growth of this automotive segment is increasing daily\, putting additional pressure on fire response to understand the complexities of these vehicles and the modified standard operating procedures required to assure “everyone goes home safe.”  This course will address these first responder needs by presenting an overview of how alternative fuel vehicles operate\, their key components\, vehicle identification techniques\, immobilization procedures\, firefighting and extrication\, and overall safety procedures including proper personal protective equipment. By the end of the course\, participants will have learned\, among other skills: \n\nUnderstand the different types of electric vehicles (EVs) and gaseous fueled vehicles\nKnow the difference between gaseous fuels\, including CNG\, LNG\, and LPG\nOutline alternative fuel vehicle (AFV) safety systems\nCategorize AFV charging appliances and their safety systems\nIllustrate the firefighter personal protective equipment recommended for AFV response\nOutline extrication procedures for EVs and gaseous fueled vehicles\nUnderstand fire response and AFVs\n\nThe class has limited seating. Please email the event coordinator\, Samantha Pettigrew\, at spettigrew@southface.org if you would like to attend as soon possible. You will then receive a calendar invite with additional details. Lunch will be provided.

SUMMARY:Innovation in Propane Systems Training
DESCRIPTION:  \n \nJoin Clean Cities Georgia and Southeast Florida Clean Cities to learn more about how propane systems can serve as fueling stations for remote\, stand-alone\, and off the grid use. Find out where renewable propane comes from and the growth of this up-and-coming carbon neutral fuel. \nWe’ll share with you why propane is a cost-effective solution for transit\, school buses\, and delivery vehicles with less maintenance and longer duty-cycles. \nOur speakers will include: \n\nSteve Whaley\, PERC\nGreg Powell\, Cherokee County (GA)\nPaul Strobis\, Broward County (FL)\nMauricio Morafiallos\, Propane Solutions

SUMMARY:First Responder Electric Vehicle Safety Training
DESCRIPTION:This course\, “First Responder Alternative Fuel Vehicle Safety Training\,” will address these needs by presenting how alternative fuel vehicles operate\, their key components\, vehicle identification techniques\, immobilization procedures\, firefighting and extrication\, and overall safety procedures\, including proper personal protective equipment.\nAt the scene\, would you know:\n• How to quickly identify an electric\, hybrid-electric\, biofuel\, natural gas\, hydrogen\, or propane-powered vehicle?\n• Where the high-voltage batteries\, components\, and cables are located in an electric drive vehicle?\n• How long does a high-voltage system take to fully discharge once disabled?\n• How to safely put out electric vehicle fires?\n• That the battery in an electric vehicle can store between 200 and 900 volts of electricity?\n• That 12-volt battery may be located in areas other than under the hood\, and knowing its location is crucial in disabling the vehicle?\n• Electric vehicles have high-voltage components in the engine compartment?\n• It is difficult to determine if electric vehicles running in electric-only mode are disabled or active?

The growth of this automotive segment is increasing daily\, putting additional pressure on fire response to understand the complexities of these vehicles and the modified standard operating procedures required to assure “everyone goes home safe.”\n\n \n\nThis 1.5-hour live webinar will address these first responder needs by presenting an overview of how alternative fuel vehicles operate\, their key components\, vehicle identification techniques\, immobilization procedures\, firefighting and extrication\, and overall safety procedures including proper personal protective equipment.\n\n \n\nTaught by a firefighter instructor\, Chris Womock\, who has over 27 years of experience in the fire service and eight years of experience teaching first responders nationwide how to respond correctly to alternative fuel vehicle (AFV) incidents.\n\n \n\nBy the end of the webinar\, participants will have learned:\n\n Understand the different types of electric vehicles (EVs) and gaseous fueled vehicles\n Know the difference between gaseous fuels\, including CNG\, LNG\, and LPG\n Outline alternative fuel vehicle (AFV) safety systems\n Categorize AFV charging appliances and their safety systems\n Illustrate the firefighter personal protective equipment recommended for AFV response\n Outline extrication procedures for EVs and gaseous fueled vehicles\n Understand fire response and AFVs\n\n
